FAQs

DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT?

All Field Club Walks require you to wear proper walking boots or shoes and you may not be allowed to participate if you arrive wearing trainers, ordinary shoes, or other unsuitable footwear. This is for safety reasons as many of the paths and tracks we walk are very stoney and rough.

On long walks, you will require a backpack, to carry items such as water, picnic lunch, first aid kit, layers and if necessary wet gear. Many walkers use walking poles, which can be useful, but these are not compulsory. In hot weather, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are often essential.

The weather in Southern Spain can be quite variable from coast to mountains and can change quickly. It is advisable to carry a windproof jacket and a set of waterproof clothing.

Always ask the Walk Leader for advice, in the days prior to the walk if you have concerns.

HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE?

Field club walks range from 6km to 20km and very few of these are on flat ground.

Some shorter walks can involve a variety or up and down hill sections which will require a higher level of fitness than that of a stroll along the Paseo Maritimo.

Other walks are more challenging and require a higher level of fitness due to the distance and greater ascent and descents along with more difficult under foot sections.

Along with the walk description these walks are graded Moderate, Moderate to Hard and Hard.

It is recommended that all new members try easier walks initially so they can gauge the level of difficulty described with each walk grading used by the field club.

Walk leaders and walk coordinators can provide you with appropriate advice prior to you booking a walk.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Annual Membership is currently €15 p.a. and guests pay €5 per walk.

Walking equipment, such as walking boots, sticks and clothing is the responsibility of each member, as is any expenditure incurred on the walk for food and beverages. On coach walks, breakfast is currently included in the cost.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

Dogs are not permitted on Field Club walks/events. We are not against dogs but have decided we do not wish to deal with public liability issues, restaurant/hotel restrictions, coach restrictions and livestock issues which can arise when dogs are present. Please respect our “No Dogs” rule.

WHERE DO WE MEET?

During the two walking seasons we usually meet, with a few exceptions, on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month at 10:30 for an hour in the cafeteria of Tenencia de Alcaldia, Calle Pescado, Los Boliches. As you enter the building you can take either the stairs or a lift to the first floor where you will find the cafeteria.
